January 4, 2023We have some important information regarding making payments for items won at auction as well as registering/approval to bid in our auctions. Please continue to read this update for more information… ‘Pay Now’ Link Reinstated: As of tomorrow (Thursday 5th January) you will once again be able to pay for any lots won via card online through our website using the ‘Pay Now’ link. You will still be able to make payment via Bank Transfer if this is your preferred method however we expect that using the online ‘Pay Now’ feature will be your main form of payment once again as we revert back to our previous invoicing structure. Registration/Approval to Bid: When registering for an auction and having approval to bid in auction we have also reinstated our use of the 0.10p check on cards, meaning you will have to once again authorize your registration to each auction via your bank. As before, the 0.10p is not taken from your account. Please also ensure that your card address on our website matches what is with your bank, as if there is any difference you may be subject to rejection by the system. If you do have any difficulties in registering for our auctions or being left as ‘Pending Approval’, this may be because you are using a VPN or anti-virus software which you may have to temporarily disable if you experience such difficulties in registering. Once left ‘Pending Approval’ please email reception@wellersauctions.com and we will approve you to bid as soon as we can. To avoid being left in this state during an auction please register to bid as early as possible as we regularly check prior to an auction starting and over a weekend, so if registering during a live auction you could be left for some time before we notice you are stuck as ‘Pending Approval’. We hope the above information is helpful and look forward to seeing you online at our next Thursday auction online tomorrow from 9:00am. Many thanks, The Wellers Team [...] Read more...

November 15, 2022Almost one month has passed since our last collective sale at West Meon. It has given me long enough to reflect on what was an exciting day for all. It was 8am and the gates had just opened, a constant trickle of cars, vans, trucks and trailers filled the car park. The weather, just about staying dry threatening to rain storm any second. The usual hustle and bustle had begun, the queue for the chuck wagon was building and the first auction was about to kick off. Mike Higgins kicked the day off at 100mph selling our top row of timber, a material that has sold particularly well all year and it showed no sign of stopping now, with prices ranging from £10 for bundles of cut offs to £300 for small bundles of 3m lengths of tidy wood. Andrew Snelgar took over for the new tools which always draws a crowed to be followed soon after by chainsaws in their new position in the field. Following on form this was around 400 lots of builders sundries and general misc. This section always has a wide, varied type of stock ranging from to weird and wonderful to the highly sought-after. As always, I had the privilege of selling the farm machinery and sundries. We began with an unreserved clearance from a local farm. With a mixture of the good, the bad, and the ugly I can report troughs selling for £20 and £80, cast iron round pig feeders for £160 each, the Woodmizer for 5k, the Takeuchi mini digger for £9k and the very sought-after Shepherds hut for £2950. This sale carried on with a very well kept Ifor Williams livestock trailer selling for over 2k, a Fordson Major for 3k, various cars, horseboxes, ring feeders, cattle barriers, and a mixture of everything farming. Soon after, Tom Lofts went ahead and started our third auction of the day, Rural and domestic bygones and garden features. This auction is loved by all who attend. Almost everyone wants to buy at least one thing from here. Unfortunately for some, competition is too fierce, and they go away empty handed. Apprentice auctioneer Eric Davidson was keen to grab the sale book from Tom and get stuck in and was able to sell some of the beautiful statuary, cast iron garden ornaments and other decorative features. This auction saw another 200 lots of garden machinery including an unreserved stock clearance from a nationwide ground maintenance company supplying Honda HRH 536 mowers, Stihl blowers and chainsaws, pressure washers, and everything in between. October 29, 2022Sale of 18th C. Chinese Vase Antiques Auction   At our recent sale of fine art and furniture we were very pleased to sell a small late entry Chinese vase for a record sum. The beautifully decorated blue and white vase decorated with Qianlong marks to the base was the subject of fierce bidding with 7 mainly Chinese bidders all locked in a heated battle both on-line and on the telephone. The vendor, a local Guildford resident inherited the vase from a family member and regarded it as worthless. He stored it in the back of his transit van for some years and it then spent a further period amongst the weeds in his back garden. During the course of its life it had suffered some damage as there was evidence of some poorly effected repairs. Despite this, bidders pushed the lot for an eye watering price of £63,050 including Buyers Premium. The moral of this story is twofold; firstly never take for granted the value of anything, especially if it is of Chinese origin; and secondly acknowledge that search engines developed by the leading on-line portals will find anything of interest very quickly. If you have anything similar or anything you would like to consign to our auction then we have another sale coming up on Tuesday 24th January 2023, with our consignment window open until Tuesday 17th January 2023. To consign please email our specialist Wayne Brough via 07966 437106 or via email wayne@wellersauctions.com. [...] Read more...

May 25, 2022On Tuesday 7th June, we have an amazing selection of items that will be passing under the auction gavel…   For well over 45 years of trading ‘Academy Billiard Co.’ have been the leading specialists in the supply of the finest quality of genuine antique English Billiard, Snooker & Pool tables & accessories in the UK. Owner, Robert Donnachie, has now decided the time is right to close the business down and enter the world of retirement, now having instructed Wellers Auctions to hold a retirement auction on his behalf. There is an extremely wide array of lots, ranging from scoreboards for Billiards and Life-Pool as well as cues from many of the best makes around, table legs, memorabilia, collectables and of course the showpiece Snooker/Billiards tables.   All the stock in this mainly unreserved auction must go, and there are some notable quality entries that you won’t want to miss! In Lot 163 you will find the first of two snooker tables previously owned by a well known celebrity… This is a Norval & Sons Glasgow full sized Snooker table in Colombian pine, accompanied by Norval and sons billiard scoreboard, c.1870, originally owned by Ozzy Osbourne when he lived in Beel House, Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England and was previously in a country house in Aberdeen, it has been restored to retain its original patina, approx. 34″ (h) x 79.75″ (w) x 150.5″ (l), with set of balls, originally sold to Ozzy Osbourne by Academy Billiards and brought back when Ozzy moved out of the country.   The showpiece of this auction can be found in Lot 164 which is Burroughes & Watts full sized snooker table, displaying magnificently carved mahogany in the Adam style, c.1890, accompanied by matching Billiard cupboard scoreboard, with 12 clips for cues, this table and scoreboard is shown on the album cover ‘She’s a Lady’ by Sir Tom Jones (original record comes with the table), provenance guarantees being owned by Sir Tom Jones whilst he lived in St. Georges Hill, Weybridge in the early 70’s. Table dimensions approx. 33.5″ (h) x 81″ (w) x 151.75″ (l), scoreboard dimensions approx. 75″ (h) x 64″ (w) x 14″ (d).     [...] Read more...
May 4, 2022With over 1,600 lots entered, three days of receiving, and a week full of sunshine Wellers Auctions can report our largest sale to date at West Meon. Over 350 buyers came out in their droves to discover a field at full auction capacity, featuring all things agricultural from old potato scales to a Fordson Dexta, Stihl chainsaws to brand new tools, plants to sacks of potatoes and so much more. With the biggest crowed we have ever seen on site, Auctioneer Andrew Snelgar launched in selling plants and garden furniture selling one fire pit patio set for £500. Fellow Auctioneer Tom Lofts was soon to get going at the top of the field on the building sundries, new tools and general miscellany. He had a good run of tools before being relieved by Wayne Brough, who took over the reins and keeping the crowd entertained for a further 300 lots. One highlight was the 10 x 8 Office Cabin that sold for £2,500. It wasn’t long before Rob Snelgar began selling the machinery attracting the largest crowd. It was great to see a good run of tractors and vehicles that included the Fordson Major £2,300, Massey 35 £4,000, Fordson Dexta £2,100, International 574 (spares and repair) £1,150, Mahindra E525 compact tractor £3,500 and the Bobcat Skidsteer £3,900. ‘Bygones and Architectural Salvage’ began with Tom and guest auctioneer Dick. This popular section saw a variety of prices but the highlights include Terracotta pier caps £640, Victorian cast iron pots £260, Anvil on stand £420 and slatted gates sold at £680. Just after lunch Andrew once again got stuck in to the auction selling the selection of ‘Light Gound Maintenance & Workshop Tools’ to close the day off. The Atlas Copco Cobra Breaker £330, SCH Leaf Collector £600 and the Charter House Scarifier at £460 to name but a few of the lots that did particularly well in this section. A great day out for buyers and sellers a like, Nosebag Catering had queues all day long for the lovely food as did Mr Whippy the ice cream van. We will be back at West Meon on Saturday 9th July and It would be great to see you there in your droves once again. In the meantime, if you would like to enter into one of our future auctions then please get in touch with Rob Snelgar (rob@wellersauctions.com / 07966 437095). Likewise if you have any need for a farm sale please get in touch.   [...] Read more...
March 23, 2022We have noticed there are certain bidders that continue to be left in a state of ‘Pending’ when registering to participate in our online auctions.  If this is you, then we hopefully will have a resolution for you below… The reason when registering for an auction and being left as a ‘Pending’ bidder is most likely because your card stored on your account with us may not be 3D Secure. For extra fraud protection, 3D Secure (3DS) requires you, our customers to complete an additional verification step with the card issuer when registering for our auctions, with the sum of 0.10p being left in your pending transactions. You should at this point be re-directed to an authentication page on your bank’s website, and be required to enter either a password associated with the card or a code/approval confirmation sent to your smartphone. This process should be familiar to customers with a Visa Secure and Mastercard Identity Check. At Wellers, we have ensured that we provide the safest online shopping experiance possible to our customers, as the purpose of having a password-protected authentication system is designed to confirm the identity of the cardholder when a card is used online in suspicious or different than usual circumstance. It also helps to prevent fraudulent transactions and gives all parties in the payment process greater peace of mind.   Next Steps…   If you have a card on our website in your account with us that is not 3D Secure, please add one and this should stop you being left waiting in ‘Pending’ on our website waiting to bid, and instead approve you instantly to bid with us providing all of the details on your account such as billing address that matches the address with your bank and having a 3D Secure card on your account are provided. We hope this helps! Kind regards, The Wellers Team   How it Works   Activate The bank that issued your Visa/Mastercard will activate 3-D Secure for you automatically. Upon activation, 3-D Secure protects you at every participating online store. When you shop online at a participating merchant, your card will be automatically recognised as protected by 3-D Secure.   One-Time Password (OTP) You will be asked to authenticate yourself in a separate window displayed on the site using your 3-D Secure password or the one-time password issued to you.   Validation Once you have entered your 3-D Secure code, simply follow the steps as you normally would to complete the transaction of 0.10p, which will just be left in your pending transactions and not be taken by us. Your issuer will then verify the transaction upon successful validation. [...] Read more...

I’ve been asked to review. Based on my experience of Wellers Auctions in Guildford. I would assure folk to avoid. Why? I used them for a few months, quite extensively at first but soon the issues began. You’ll end up with missing essential things you bought, with no way to find them, items listing as new that were not new, items listed as working and not working and much more item issues. Next you would find it hard to get hold of them so you would have to physically visit them when no one responds and they have no way or system that caters to this these problems, I would regularly be there to complain about a missing item, part, not as described or missing refund and it took up more and more time. I often would have conversations with other unhappy customers waiting too. Plus the premium they charge is a profit breaker. Have since found much better Auction houses. You’ve been warned.

Been buying items for quite some time until my account was frozen due to updating card details. Left several messages with Accounts to call me back but to no avail. Front of house girls always friendly. High fees for selling and buying

I put a bad review about Wellers previously, I have to say ever since I did the Wellers Team has been nothing but helpful and has helped me to solve my issue. They changed my mind and showed they care about their customers.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ELECTRONIC FROM THESE GUYS. The last three electronic things I bought from them were broken and unusable, even though they said they were working. When I emailed them to get an answer they never replied. STAY AWAY FROM THEM UNLESS YOU GO THERE BEFOREHAND AND ACTUALLY SEE THE ITEM WORKING.

Bidding against customers and then retracting their own bids when they see they are winning their own items and they are about the end the item (even managed to get screen recording of it, they are that blasé about it) selling things not as described, broken items described as new. Never reply to emails about said items. Turn up to alloted slot only to find they've lost 20% of your items, items left out the back to get absolutely soaked by the rain. Fake items are welcomed here and sold on to unsuspecting bidders with not a care in the world. Oh and you pay 54% on top of hammer price? Most ridiculous fees ive ever encountered in my years of buying and selling. Most dirty underhanded auction I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. AVOID!

I had a bad experience here. My fault that I didn't notice the asterisk in the corner of my lot's listing which meant I would be charged VAT on the lot, but I've never been charged VAT on an antique in over twenty years of buying at auction so I'm still mystified by this. Next, I was told I couldn't pay by card on collection but had to use the online form. I was sent two different invoices so naturally elected to pay the lesser amount. When I went to collect I apparently should have booked a collection time - I had called that morning to discuss collection and no mention was made of this. I didn't find the experience easy or the staff helpful. I shan't be using this auction house again.
